Our Funding

In June 1999 The Newton Project was granted a substantial award by the Arts and Humanities Research Board (since renamed the Arts and Humanities Research Council) to host the first stage of the editing process for a period of five years.

At the end of November 2004, we received a second major award from the AHRC to sustain the project for a further five years. Our bid for this funding was rated 'an application of the highest quality: to be funded as a matter of top priority'. In 2006, a further grant from the Royal Society enabled the project to begin work on transcription of the manuscript drafts of the 'Queries' Newton added - and repeatedly revised - as a postscript to the successive editions of his Opticks.

In 2011 the AHRC awarded a further two-year grant to cover the completion of the outstanding theological manuscripts (to run from May 2011 to April 2013).
